In order to provide a basis for large-scale monitoring of carbon balance in the karst grasslands in south-west Slovenia, the present study combined eddy covariance and meteorological data to various vegetation indices derived from Proba-V and Landsat 8 satellite platforms, to model GPP (Gross Primary Production) and NEE (Net Ecosystem Exchange) for a homogenous grassland area.

Obtained results include a selection of the best models for the estimation of GPP and NEE, and a spatial illustration of NEE and GPP for the study area. The results also showed that for the growing season (March to April), the investigated grassland was a carbon sink during the 4 years of the study (2014-2017).
